UGANDAN OPPOSITION LEADER FAILS TO NOMINATE AS MP

Mr. Norbert Mao, who is the President General of Uganda’s oldest political party-The democratic Party (DP), yesterday, December 2nd 2015 failed to be nominated as a member of parliament for Gulu Municipality seat in the on-going nomination of candidates.

The Gulu district Registrar of the Electoral Commission told disappointed Mao that he could not be nominated as a candidate because Mao did not register as a voter and therefore had no voter’s card which is valid and current.

The voters’s register was compiled from the register of the Ministry of Internal Affair’s National Identification Project, replacing the old voter’s register with a new one.

Mao complained that he did not register for the National Identity at the time people were being registered because he was admitted in a Nairobi Hospital. He said he tried to register later when he came back to Uganda but was denied chance of registering.

Mao accused the government of President Museveni of being behind his predicament.

“How can you say I am not a voter yet I am carrying one for the 2011 poll where I participated as a Presidential candidate?”

We are yet to know which candidate the Democratic Alliance TDA will through their weight behind to challenge National Resistance candidate Timothy Jokkene.
