GULU GO-FORWARD OFFICIALS DISPUTE DEFECTION

Officials in Gulu who are heading the campaigns for Uganda’s Independent Presidential Go-Forward candidate, John Patrick Amama Mbabazi has refuted claims that their members have defected to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party on Saturday, 6th December 2015.

“It is a futile exercise that 300 of our members defected to NRM. This is pure lie these are actions of desperate people. they even lie in their own dreams. Those were NRM members who came to get free money from Captain Mike Mukula,” said Dr. Freddie Oyat.

He was addressing a press conference at the Northern Uganda Media Club (NUMEC) office in Gulu town on Monday, 8th December 2015. He is the chairman of joint Opposition The Democratic Alliance (TDA) in Gulu.

On Saturday, the Vice chairman of the ruling NRM party for Eastern region Capt. Mike Mukula landed in Gulu in a yellow helicopter where he met a group of about 300 youths who are allegedly members of the TDA Go- Forward party.

The publicity secretary of the group, Alfred Oluba told journalists that one of them , Walter Nyeko, who was an NRM infiltrator stole the register where boda boda motor cyclists were registered to get free fuel during the visit of their candidates and handed it over to NRM to use for calling the fake defectors.

“I reached where they were gathered and they were mostly crime preventers ferried from all over Acholi sub-region, NRM LC I flag bearers for post of chairpersons and a few boda boda cyclists who were deceived that TDA had called for a meeting at Taks Center. Even me, I was told TDA had called for a meeting at the Taks Center”.

The group say their candidate will get between 55%-60% of the total votes in Gulu, come February 18th, 2016.
